[Businessmtg] List Administrator role

Hi,

These observations from Anne's email caught my attention:

"with each rotation we start over and expectations are high for the new
person. I think the role of the List Administrator is too big for one
person, and past behavior has shown that after each 3 yr. period of LA
service, our list administrator not only passes the baton to the next
volunteer, but most have also left ASP."

While Steve has been very clear that he does not find the LA duties overly
burdensome and has the ability to whittle down the barrage of emails to a
small, manageable number, the reality is that Steve as a Founder has tons
of experience and expertise and doesn't need to go through the type of
learning curve that someone who is elected to a 3 year term as LA would
need to gain before being able to manage the list the way Steve is able
to. And it would not be unreasonable to think that many LAs would still
not have figured out how to get things to run as smoothly as Steve has them
by the time their 3 year term is up.

I agree with posts that point out the importance of shared leadership, and
it seems to me that we need to encourage this as much as possible in order
to keep ASP healthy and functioning. I am in favor of the LA having a
committee of people (similar to the way there is a specific greeter
committee), rather than making this a shared responsibility of the Steering
Committee. I think that encourages more people to be of service, which
promotes shared leadership and another "entry point" into service that can
lead towards Steering Committee positions. It also allows more people to
be familiar with what's needed to keep ASP running smoothly when it comes
to handling the barrage of emails.

I also agree with Linda H that it would be good that ASP have the ability
to read all emails so that nobody needing a specific response accidentally
slips through the cracks. That is too much to ask one person to do.

HUGS (Helping Us Gain Serenity), Linda
