Hi Linda,

Your question #11:

11/ I wondered if this meant that the request by Steering Committee for Founder to assume any position was as a temporary fill-in. The description for "Founders of ASP" at end of the link provided clarifies this for me. Perhaps wording should match. (housekeeping?)

Under List Administrator in recommended changes, it states "Online meetings are not Groups and therefore do not have GR's. This appears to no longer be the case.

=============

I thought I made it clear in my description of why we added a section for the Founders that this was to allow for the Steering Committee to ASK a Founder to serve or perform some duties for ASP. As it is now, the Founders are described in the Founding Statement as being a part of the Steering Committee, but otherwise have no actual duty, nor is there any provision for the SC to ask a Founder to perform the duties of a vacant position.

Just to make sure that there is no confusion about the Founders - these two positions are the ONLY positions on the Steering Committee that are specifically delineated in the Founding Statement. As a result, the Business Meeting does not have the authority to change them or eliminate them, or to change the qualifications for being a "Founder".

When Sandie & Jane departed suddenly in October 2017, Jerry asked me to assist with his transition into his role as the newly elected List Administrator. Very shortly after that, the Steering Committee asked me to perform the task of returning the ASP website to its pre-2015 content, and I wound up serving as the Acting Web Master until Anne K's election in May 2018. Next, Jennifer resigned as Treasurer in April 2018 which led to significant challenges with PayPal, etc. and I was asked to serve as Acting Treasurer until Mary's election in May 2020. Most recently, Jerry resigned as List Administrator in March 2020, moving Beverly, the recently elected Secretary into the position of List Administrator. Beverly resigned shortly after that; I became the Acting List Administrator.

So, for the last almost 4 years, I have been pressed into service in one form or another in addition to being my usual pain in the butt on the Steering Committee. 😊 Along the way, some have suggested that ASP return to the original format we had in the first 10 years of ASP's history. Back then, I was the List Owner because I actually owned the "list" that is ASP and it ran on my personal Internet account. The original ASP website still resides and continues to be active on my personal account at http://www.serenitysys.com/A_Serenity_Place. What about the other trusted servants? It was simple. When we needed a new Greeter Chair or Secretary, I posted a notice in the recovery meeting asking for volunteers. My selection process was uber simple - the first person to respond that had been a member of ASP for at least a year got the job. The Greeter Chair handled her own recruiting in a similar fashion. If we had a Secretary, then she did the same. If we didn't have a Secretary, then I handled it the same as I do now. We didn't have a Treasurer because I paid the bills. We didn't have a Web Master because it was my website. The Greeter Chair, Secretary and I were in frequent contact and worked closely together. Business Meetings were rare, until I decided to "retire" and turn ASP over to the members in late 2005. FWIW, I'd already officially retired in 1993 and had gone back to grad school when I got the hair-brained idea of launching ASP. 😊

Hugs,
Steve
