[Businessmtg] FW: Gross Error Yikes!

Hi Betsy,
Please note that there is NO dispute over the wording.
Jerry noticed an error in the original Motion #4, that we mistakenly copied
into the new recommended version. In response to Jerry's spot-on comments
about that error, I fixed the problem by removing one word. The result is
that the new version allows the Business Meeting to make changes policy in
general, but does not allow the Business Meeting make changes to "core"
policies, which are those policies outlined in the Founding Statement and
Policies.
You are quite correct about Al-Anon being non-professional and not
organized. Unfortunately, there is always a tendency for us to defer to
professionals and/or to try to solve problems by being more organized (i.e.,
more guidelines and rules) but that is counter productive to our personal
growth as well as our unity. Good personal decisions are made through an
informed group conscience, not by following some algorithm or decision tree
based on some pre-ordained criteria. After all, this is a one day at a time
program.
Hugs,
Steve

A big thank you to Jerry and Steve for your consistent hard work on setting
the foundation for ASP, but, frankly, I don't know what to do with this
dispute over wording. It sounds to me like it's a little bit beyond
Business Meeting level.

On one hand, if the members of the Business Meeting are to decide whether or
not we have the authority to make these proposed changes, I would feel
obligated to read carefully through every word of our documentation as
posted on the website. I have read it, and frankly, it's not that well
written. There are all kinds of opportunities for misunderstanding and
ambiguity. I don't think of that as a bad thing. Our traditions state that
we must always remain non-professional and not-organized. Lawyers and
professional business/legal writers have no place here (unless they have
friends or family who are alcoholics, of course.)

On the surface, I don't see how webmaster/secretary's assistant or
responding to changes in WSO with GR position amount to the stature of core
principles or founding principles.

These concerns sound important and they have the potential to be very
divisive. Please give some guidance on how the business meeting can help.

Thanks,

--
