Biz-Pals,

Re: Experience and Our Group Rep

I nearly agree with Steve and all about the GR position being the first step into service outside the group, and therefore newer, less experienced members could benefit from this experience. Where I differ is only in consideration of the nature of these initial Electronic Areas and Assemblies.

So much of this is new, and because experience in the nature and needs of Electronic Meetings IMHO needs to be thorough for those who will be outlining whatever processes and suggested guidelines will be formed, I would suggest that our first representative - at least for the initial meetings and assemblies - be someone of the broadest experience in online meetings. Remember, telephone meetings and all other formats will be included so email groups need to be well represented.

Because I'm out in the deep woods (thank you mobile hot spot) I don't have my Service Manual with me, but I recall there are "suggested," but not required, guidelines. The standard term for a Group Rep is indeed 3 years, but groups are also empowered to elect a representative at the last minute and even for the sole attendance and vote at specific meetings or Assemblies. As long as the Group elects that person, they have voice and vote while representing the Group.

So we could elect a GR to serve the group for the duration of the period when electronic meeting guidelines are being formed, then revert to the standard 3-year terms when less experienced and eager newcomers would fill the bill well.

I think it wise to think of how important the initial and deciding meetings will be for the future of electronic meetings. Personally I'd like the most able representative we can find lending their experience and knowledge to whatever body will be forming the future of electronic recovery.

In service,
Jerry H.
