To speak to Edith's concerns, here is my experience as I am the newest 
member of the steering committee. I had been in Al anon and ASP for just 
over 2 years when I applied to serve as List Administrator. I was 
definitely nervous to take it on, but from my conversations with members 
of the steering committee before applying for the position, I was pretty 
sure that I could do it - with training and support. And that is exactly 
what I have received since starting this position in May. Steve, as the 
outgoing LA, trained me in a couple sessions over the phone. The day to 
day technical things that I have to do took me a couple weeks to get 
down, but now are second nature.  The entire steering committee (Steve, 
Anne and Kelley) is amazing and always available if I have questions or 
need the input of the group as to how to proceed with something I 
haven't dealt with before. And I feel comfortable contributing on issues 
the steering committee is discussing - and I find it a really great way 
to learn more about the traditions and how to apply them to service at 
ASP.

Basically, I would really encourage anyone who is interested and has the 
qualifications (at least 1 year's service at ASP as either greeter or 
daily chair) to consider serving in one of the three open positions 
(Secretary, Treasurer or GR). I feel I'm getting more out than I put in 
and it helps me grow in my recovery to see Al anon traditions put to 
work in practice.
