Hi Friends..
As ASP's Group Representative, I have some information to share since our
last business meeting. The Al-Anon Global Electronic Area (GEA) and the
GEA officers, continue to work on building out their structure and share
their progress with the GR's via email fairly regularly. The Area
Secretary, Burt, is the one who is managing communication with the group but
we have also heard from Rosemary, the Area Chair, and Becky, the Area
Treasurer as well as our Area Delegate Ozzie.
* The GEA website is the central source where documents and links are
posted as well as a digest of emails. .This is managed by the Area
Secretary Burt
* The treasury information is setup - our group donation will be sent
to the information provided by the Area Treasurer
* The Area Delegate notified us that "The printed copy of the 2022
World Service Conference Summary is now available to order in the Online
Bookstore"
* The Area Chair is processing all the feedback she received from GR's
on priorities. These were due before this business meeting, so I shared
with the SC before sending mine out.
The questions asked of the GR's followed by my response to each were sent to
the Area Chair on 8/14:
What are your top three priorities for the Area?
For me (my group) to:
* Support the Area leadership committee in their efforts to get the
Area structured. This is no small feat, and I feel for all of you as you
navigate the frustration and negativity in the GEA forum.
* Support the virtual groups with resources that they can use as they
figure things out.
* Consider Areas by language, it isn't clear to me if F2F groups
across the world have an area that considers their countries origin. I
think that being a worldwide fellowship, we need all groups to feel
included. Kudos to all of you for setting up translation service for French
and Spanish speakers, I just wonder if that is enough.
How should districts be organized?
* Districts should be organized by mode - meaning phone, zoom, email,
chat. I think many groups are struggling with how best to get organized.
ASP has been around since 1996. And while our recovery meeting is sound,
and many of the admin functions have become streamlined, I think we could
benefit from hearing from others.
* I have heard a lot of discussion about using time zones to organize
districts. I don't think time zone makes sense, as GR's rotate, how is
the time zone consideration managed? This is not sustainable. Unless I am
missing something.
What service position are you willing & able to contribute?
* I am very interested in learning more about the types of service
positions there are aside from the obvious 4 that are already filled. I do
work fulltime, so my availability would be limited.
The agenda Steve posted listed Virtual areas as a new topic to discuss.. I
hope the information shared here will be helpful when the topic is started.
I expect that there will be another Area meeting soon so this topic is
timely.
Yours in Service,
Anne O.
Interim ASP Group Representative
