[Businessmtg] service positions

The general member positions are elected positions just like all SC positions.

Don't get me wrong here. ASP would be better off with a SC made up of members with at least one prior year of ASP service under their belt. The problem is that members of the BM either don't have that experience or are unwilling or unable to serve in a three-year term position.

So we end up with existing SC members serving in multiple positions and a smaller SC making decisions, having lost the varied experience, strength, and hope a full set of SC members provides.

In service,
Jerry

I think I need a bit of clarification here--are the 2 general members of
the Steering Committee elected or appointed?

It feels to me like a very steep jump from a six month appointed service
position to the service positions on the Steering Committee (asking for 3
year commitment) right now. I know it would not be possible for me to make
a 3 year commitment, and I'm wondering if there are many others who feel
the same way. The 6 month general member position sounds like a way to get
people to make a less intimidating commitment to being on the Steering
Committee, which would allow them to test out whether they would like to
join the Steering Committee in one of the other administrative positions.
It also sounds like envisioning the role of the General Member as kind of
like an apprentice/intern learning the ropes of the Steering Committee
operations would be helpful.

I would be in favor of keeping the 1 year requirement for the LA, and
Secretary positions, but shortening the time for other elected positions to
6 months service with ASP if the person has at least 6 months service
experience in Al-Anon as a whole.
