1. There is support for reducing the previous ASP service for elected trusted servants from 1 year to 6 months, although some would prefer the List Admin, Secretary or Treasurer to still have 1 year prior ASP service.
***Question for further discussion: Why would people be in favor of 1 year Vs 6 months for specific positions?
My Answer: 1 year is a long time. It's hard to plan that far ahead. 6 months service is enough time to learn how ASP works and how people can help. Many other Al-Anon groups allow people to serve right away. I am not saying we should do that, but I think reducing requirements for service here would be a benefit to us.
2. There is support for including other Al anon service as part of the service requirement in addition to or in lieu of time at ASP (multiple combinations have been suggested).
***Question for further discussion: Why was prior Al anon service not originally part of the requirements for ASP elected trusted servants? What are the pros and cons of this?
My Answer: I think other Al-Anon service should count, but there should be a little time in ASP so the person who is serving knows how This Meeting is ran. I would say prior service and 3 months as an ASP member should allow people to provide service here. I am open to more or less time requirements for this here.
3. There is a suggestion to count participation in the business meeting toward the ASP service requirement for elected trusted servants.
***Question for discussion: Has this been considered previously? What are the pros and cons of this?
My Answer: I think participation in the business meeting should definitely count for those who are not simply lurkers. I am gaining a better prospective on how ASP is run by participating in this meeting, and I think others will to.
4. There is concern that the 3 year commitment for elected trusted servants is too long and could put off prospective people who might otherwise apply.
***Question for further discussion: What is the reason for the 3 year commitment and what are the pros and cons of lowering this?
My answer: While 3 years provides stability, it is a long ammout of time to commit to. I am in favor of reducing this requirement. It's likely more people will be interested in service here if we do.
5. There is a suggestion to lower the ASP participation requirements for the appointed positions to allow a possible faster path to service as an elected trusted servant.
***Question for further discussion: I think there might be conflicting guidelines for this between 1 year and 6 months. Could someone who has been here for a long time offer some clarity?
My Answer: I think my previous answers cover this. I have not been here a long time, so I would like to see some long timers answering the questions listed here.
Thank You,Tasha
