[Businessmtg] Topic 2 - Getting use of Digital Copies of Welcome materials for newcomers

Beverly and all,

An understanding of our current group conscience regarding providing newcomers with materials is certainly pertinent to the topic we are discussing, and not out of order.

Times change. Since that old motion the ability to provide newcomer materials digitally has become a possibility amounting to what would be an amendment to that former passed motion, not and additional new one.

Since digital copies ought to be much less expensive than hard copies the cost to ASP for providing these materials should also be much less should we provide them electronically.

Memory suggests that some CAL materials suitable for newcomers are now free to use or download and could supplant our providing newcomer packets should we determine they're sufficient requiring only passing on the link to newcomers to access them.

A part of electronic meetings being fully recognized as Al-Anon Family Groups that I didn't understand until recently is that we are no longer restricted in our use of more than one unedited paragraph in our meeting openings or shares - assuming I'd suggest, that appropriate copyright footnotes are provided. Question: Would this not also apply to electronic groups' ability to "hand out" CAL within our meetings? We may have to pay for it somehow, but I'd think having to ask for WSO permission when f2f groups don't have to when they do the same thing would be treating us differ - again. Interesting to find out if the WSO would sell (reduced price) digital copies to groups for distribution.

My thoughts in the spirit of KBDM - definitely not out of order.

In service,
Jerry

Hi Jerry.  This is Beverly.  I see your point.  Good reminder.  But, Is what you are saying out of order?

I’m not sure if one has to do with the other.

ASP has a policy right now to distribute a physical newcomer packet if requested.

When we start discussing and if we pass a motion for digital, maybe we can have two options?  Digital and physical?

Right now we are just talking about digital.

Just my humble opinion in the spirit of unity.   Thanks for reading.

Hugs,

Biz-Pals,

Just a reminder that ASP's current Group Conscience [Motion #?] states that Newcomer Packets are to be given to all Al-Anon newcomers to ASP who request one - paid for with ASP funds. Because this program didn't get up and running efforts were made to reverse this Group Conscience, but that motion failed.

So, currently, we are obligated to offer hard copies of the current newcomer booklet to our 1st Steppers free of charge if they request one, but we don't.

Background FYI.

Hello friends,

This is quite a learning curve! Thank you for your patience as I learn all
the ins and outs of this meeting.

Natasha was not available, so we moved to the next topic.

The next topic is:
Should we get use [permission] to use digital copies of the Newcomer
packets and materials?
This topic was brought up by Anne.
Anne, would you be able to add more specific details regarding the how,
when, etc.

Thank you!
