[Businessmtg] Newcomer packets

I agree with Jennifer that offering a link - in our greeter emails
and/or on our website - to the Al anon website for this welcome packet
would eliminate additional pressure on any of our volunteers. Then each
new member could purchase this in a format that works for them (or not,
their choice).

I've been thinking about the option of sending paper packets that has
been discussed and wonder if that would breach the anonymity that is one
of our tenets. It would require a new member to feel comfortable giving
us their name and address. When I was a greeter, a lot of people that
joined did NOT give their names. It is an anonymous program after all
and email makes it even more anonymous. It would have creeped me out as
a new member to be asked to give my name and address as part of the
joining process so that I could be sent something, no matter how useful.

I am still in favor of repealing motion 7 completely as Steve suggested.
I do agree with the idea of giving new members a welcome packet, like is
done in F2F meetings. But I don't think that idea translates well to an
email meeting and that we keep trying to force a round peg into a square
hole. Also back when motion 7 was passed and motion 15 was discussed,
there was no option like the official Welcome e-booklet that the WSO has
now released. Buying these e-booklets for new members will be burdensome
in some way shape or form for the volunteers at ASP and we couldn't buy
them for non-US members anyway. Considering that we have been
chronically understaffed at the Steering Committee level, I am not in
favor of adding anything more to any of the positions. Especially when
including a link to that Al anon welcome booklet in our greeting process
and on or website will get the information we want to our new members.

Hugs,
Lynne
