[Businessmtg] Elected service vacancies

Hi everyone,

I wanted to chime in on two points being discussed.

I know I send out several measures of how our meeting is doing. In regards to this conversation, I think the most relevant is the # of unique people who share each month, which is about 115 right now. We do have 875 people who receive emails, but only 115 of them are sharing in any given month. So if we consider we have 20 people attending BMs out of ~115 people, that is about 17% of active participants in the recovery meeting. Which from what others have mentioned during this meeting and previous meetings is not actually that bad.

However it does mean that the majority of people at ASP do not know the vacancies that we have on the steering committee. Which is one of the reasons the steering committee was authorized to solicit volunteers for service on the SC in motion 25. And in fact, sending out a message to the recovery meeting after motion 25 passed is what led to Jennifer and Krissy volunteering for service. The SC could send out an email again to the recovery meeting - it just isn’t something we’ve discussed yet as we’re still getting settled again after Jennifer and Krissy started in June and then Krissy resigned last month.

Hugs,
Lynne

> Good morning, All. I think this is my first time actually sharing at a business meeting. It is interesting that ASP has 875 members and less than 20 are attending the business meeting.I joined the business meeting to learn about how Al-Anon works. For some members, ASP is their only AFG and they may have little knowledge about all of the background work that is required. They have not ever attended a FTF meeting. When I was ready to serve at the group level, I knew of the greeters, daily group chairs, treasurer, a list administrator and of course Steve. I did not get a clue about the other roles until I chaired the Traditions meeting. I like Betsy C's idea of taking a group inventory. And also maybe taking an inventory of why there is high turnover in the roles, and notifying the group that it is important for ASP to be self-supporting. It may be helpful to explain why certain roles have a 3 year term which can seem like a long time. My last thought is that we don't want our current leaders to get burned out. It feels like the stress of maintaining the behind-the-scenes roles is carried by a few people (those that attend the business meeting?), whereas the great majority of ASP members don't have awareness that there is an internal strain.
