[Businessmtg] Alternate GR and CMA

Hi biz pals,

Wow, that is a lot to digest. I'm going to dumb down and summarize what I
understood of Steve's very detailed emails.

Group Representative (GR-acting Anne) isn't able to attend every meeting,
especially since some have been announced rather last minute. Rather than
miss out on the information or have our voice not heard, appoint one of the
at large SC positions as alternate Group Rep to fill in when Anne's
unavailable. Change the length of service for the at large position from 6
months to one year. Qualifications for the position would remain unchanged.

Current Mailing Address (CMA-Steve). Traditionally, this was snail mail
copies of the Forum and notices of upcoming events. More recently the WSO
added an email address, so whomever is designated as the CMA gets both
snail mail and email copies of the same. Now, WSO has added a CMA forum
that is allowing the CMA to voice opinions on behalf of their group (which
I agree, seems to overstep the bounds of the GR duties). The proposal here
at ASP is to make the second at large SC position into an alternate CMA
position. Here's where I got a little fuzzy on the details for us, the at
large/alt CMA would have their email (only) registered with the WSO? And
snail mail would continue to go to the mailbox in WA, which I gather Steve
checks? How does the communication between the CMA and alternate happen?
(Hey, I'm checking the email today, you check tomorrow?) Qualifications for
this position would remain unchanged.

So far, my thoughts are that yes, these at large service terms would need
to be extended to at least one year. The two reasons for that: 1. the
learning curve involved in the tasks 2. reduce the burden on the person
responsible for reporting changes to WSO. Another concern of mine is that
these at large positions are currently vacant, and have a history of
remaining unfilled. So I'm not sure how much benefit there is in assigning
duties to these positions, then figuring out how to work around it when
they are vacant.

Would it instead be more beneficial to take our concerns to the WSO re: the
improper use of CMA's speaking for GR's, and the short notice of area GR
meetings?

Beyond that... well I'm still chewing it over and awaiting clarification on
the finer points of alt CMA.

Thanks for listening,
Marilyn
