[Businessmtg] Fwd: CMA/GR alternates

Hi Missy,

Thanks for the excellent questions.

1. Whether this involves looking for 1-2 additional members for the SC
serving as the Alternate GR and an Alternate CMA, or looking for 1-2
At-Large members of the SC that had some kind of official duty depends on
your perspective. My suggestion was the former because that is much simpler
to implement, and it doesn't try to do the impossible of filling even more
positions than we have been unable to fill already. Comprende?

2. The Alternate GR position is someone that is available to serve as the
GR when the GR is temporarily unavailable. If the GR becomes permanently
unavailable, then the Alternate automatically becomes the GR.
Theoretically, the Alternate is authorized to attend any event in addition
to the GR that the GR is authorized to attend. I would
expect/hope/encourage that the GR and Alternate GR have equal access to all
background material, GR Forum access, and develop an excellent and open line
of communication with the GR. IF we set it up so that the Alternate GR is a
member of the SC, then the Alternate GR would participate in the SC just
like any officer of ASP. The duties of the GR are more fully described in
the Service Manual, but the gist of it is that the GR (or Alternate GR)
represents the Group at District business meetings, other District events if
those occur, GEA Area Assemblies and Business Meetings. As I mentioned
earlier, other GEA events that do not involve doing the business of the Area
are optional for any and all members.

3. Yes, the policy allowing the SC to recommend members that don't meet the
full prerequisites for election to the SC is still in effect.

4. The GR is an elected position, and since the Alternate GR serves as the
GR on occasion and rotates into the GR position automatically if the GR
resigns or otherwise leaves, it follows that the Alternate GR must also be
an elected position. Vacancies are usually announced to the recovery
meeting when the Secretary posts the announcement of the upcoming Business
Meeting. Potentially, we could make a separate announcement regarding all
of our vacancies, however it would be inappropriate to make a special
announcement for the Alternate GR position, especially when the Alternate GR
position is far less critical to the continued operation of ASP than the
List Administrator, Secretary, Greeter Chair and Treasurer.

Love and SERENITY,
Steve

Hello all,

With Steve's proposal, we're looking for 1-2 Steering Committee members.
Could one of the current SC members define what that would look like for
anyone interested? I find it tricky to find what I need in the website
folders and these positions are new. :) Meaning, what other duties would the
members at large have as being on the SC? How often does the SC meet?
How many GEA (Global Electronic Groups) meetings would they attend in the
new roles?

As Lynne mentioned, we may have better luck with the volunteers NOT having
SC responsibilities. However, I know they need to be educated, so that may
not be possible. I am overcommitted as a Service Board member locally at
this time, wish I could be more helpful.

Is the SC still able to have flexibility to approve new members that don't
have full service requirements, but demonstrate dedication to ASP?

I know it is not what we typically do, but could the position be described
and put to the full membership?

Missy
