Hi folks,
Hopefully, this will be the last post for a spell so I can get back to my puppy-watch duties. 😊
The GEA was created in late 2021 and elected its officers in early 2022, so it has been in existence for nearly two years now. One of my concerns has been the GEA’s lack of communication with the groups, especially the GEA’s habit of last-minute scheduling of meetings, Assemblies and responses they want from the groups. For example, the GEA did not announce the December 2nd and December 9th Task Force presentation on November 18th; only 2 & 3 weeks’ notice of a very important meeting.
The gist of my thinking is that districting in the GEA should:
1. Follow the Service Manual, unless the GRs make an INFORMED group conscience to do differently.
2. The districting plan should avoid arbitrary parameters that do not commonly exist in the face-to-face geographic fellowship.
3. That the GEA should consolidate Platforms by Technology. Four reasons:
a. Problems with a technology tend to be common to all brands of similar technology.
b. GRs familiar with Brand X of video conferencing should be very capable of using the same basic technology of Brand Y used at the District level.
c. This results in the inclusion of groups using less popular brands into the fold.
d. Simplicity.
4. The GEA should consider districting by geographic location when appropriate. It is well known that many, if not most, Zoom groups were spun off of face-to-face groups in response to COVID shutdowns. In major metropolitan areas, this naturally led to a great many Zoom meetings congregated in relatively small geographic locals. When this is the case, why not place those groups in geographically-based districts?
5. The GEA should poll the Groups and/or GRs to determine the order of precedence for creating types of groups (platform, language, metropolitan/geographic area, time zone). The GEA should balance their opinion with that of the groups in general.
Love and SERENITY,
Steve
