[Businessmtg] Fwd: Opportunities to grow

Hi Tori,

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. None the less, my thoughts still stand.

As for ASP announcing events hosted by other Al-Anon groups and service entities? The good news today is that there are many online events similar to the face-to-face events that have been around for decades. However, unlike the face-to-face events which tend to have a natural geographic filter, online events don't have any filters. The result is that local f2f meetings post flyers and make announcements of LOCAL events while ignoring distant events, even if they happen to know about them. If we started announcing online events, ASP could be flooded with announcements, which tends to segue into other unwarranted posts.

It also begs the question of who is authorized to post announcements in the ASP recovery meeting?
     * Regular members? That is easy, but it also gets out of control easily.
     * Steering Committee? That would solve the issue of inappropriate posting, however it also creates another layer of work for the SC. . . vetting events (not all events are actually Al-Anon), how much info to include, and fielding questions about events from members, etc.
     * Website. Once upon a time back in the very early days of ASP, we maintained a bulletin board called "What's New" where we posted info about ASP and events. Naturally, it was a bit of work to maintain, so it quickly faded away. That could work today, however, considering the plethora of online events in today's world, it would take a lot of work to maintain.

Ideally, I'd like to see the GEA hosting some recovery-oriented events in addition to their service events. Likewise, our District could do the same sort of thing just like my District did back in the 80's - without the potluck, though. 😊 If so, then those would be naturals for us to announce because of our relationship to the District and GEA.

Love and SERENITY,
Steve

Hello;
I would be attending this event from my own zoom account, using the link provided.
It is an Open Event. An open invitation.
I’m not asking ASP to host an event I’m asking that we inform our membership of events. There are so many who could benefit. So many who don’t know these events exist.

>
> 1. Cost #1. Does our current account with Zoom allow us to hold a "meeting" with a group larger than our Steering Committee? I'm guessing that we would need to make changes to our Zoom account, which would probably incur additional expenses to ASP. Anne would know more about this than I do as she is the one that set up our Zoom account and knows about that stuff.
>
> 2. Cost #2. Once we knew about the financial impact(s), we could discuss things like (a) number of members participating, (b) frequency (monthly, quarterly, ?). Going back to when I was a District Rep, my District held speaker potlucks randomly. They were randomly successful, so I upped the ante and made them monthly. Within 3 months, attendance went from 20-30 to over 100. My gut feeling is that ASP might see 50-100 ASP members attend.
>
> 3. Cost #3. Do we limit participation to ASP or not? Obviously, this needs to be discussed in the Business Meeting. The BM may decide to limit attendance, or to give that decision authority to the Steering Committee, or to . . . ???
>
> 4. Cost #4. Does ASP absorb this cost into our annual budget? Or do we develop a way of passing the basket? Or do we simply request a donation/door entry fee to participate. It's easy to pass the basket in real-time in a face-to-face speaker meeting; not so easy in a Zoom meeting.
>
> 4. Workshop Chair. Who chairs the workshop(s)? My current thinking is that the Workshop Chair would be appointed by the Steering Committee. This would avoid having to elect new Workshop Chairs and give the Steering Committee working oversight on the workshops and the ability to make adjustments and/or course corrections quickly, if needed.
>
> 5. Limits on Topics. More thoughts for the Business Meeting and Steering Committee. For example, we have a long history at ASP of not having a sponsorship list (a list of members who are available as sponsors). We do not do this for a variety of reasons. . . for instance, unlike a f2f meeting, it is impossible for us to vet anyone that wants to be on the list, experience has shown us that folks that want to be on such a list are not necessarily the best choices for being a sponsor.
> So, in the case of a Sponsorship Workshop, we would not want 'speakers' promoting something that is contrary to ASP practices and policies.
>
> 6. Format. I'm envisioning two possible formats. There may be more. One is a Workshop format with multiple short speakers, say 10-minute talks each, with a discussion Q&A after. Second is a pure speaker-meeting with a 30 to 45-minute speaker, possibly with some fellowship time after.
>
> Lastly, the decision on whether to venture down this path belongs to the membership in the Business Meeting. I would like to suggest that we put this on the agenda for a future March Business Meeting.
