[Businessmtg] Suggestions so far

Thanks for the discussion on expanding the number of volunteers for
Steering Committee positions. Right now we are asking too much of our
trusted servants. What worked in the past isn't working now.

1. Reducing the previous time spent in service to ASP may help, but I
don't remember hearing many people saying they would be happy to serve on
the Steering Committee if they didn't have to spend a year before that in
other service positions. I've also heard some opposition to the idea
because of the dangers of too many inexperienced members on the Steering
Committee. (Please forgive the clumsy summary.)
2. A group inventory. This wouldn't directly address the issue under
discussion but it's a healthy thing for an AFG to do. I think it's been a
long time since this group has done an inventory, if ever. Even if it were
just the business meeting conducting the inventory, we could look at our
decision-making process and perhaps stimulate some new thinking about how
to ensure we are upholding the Traditions and Concepts. We need some new
ways to do what we do.
3. Open up another path to elected positions by recognizing consistent
service in the business meeting. Again, this is a change from what we've
done before. If we set the minimum requirement thoughtfully, I don't think
it would dilute our effectiveness.

To sum up, I am in favor of doing a group inventory and willing to
volunteer time to help make it happen. I am also in favor of Jerry's
suggestion to consider service in a certain number of business meetings as
a path to service on the Steering Committee.
