HI All,
I have appreciated everything that has been shared here. And I know that we
are wrapping up this discussion today. As a long-standing member of ASP and
a member of the Steering Committee since its inception (with a short break
somewhere in there), I have experienced and felt a lot of what has been
shared. What has brought more perspective has been in my recent position
as GR, where there is a lack of consistency or Knowledge based decision
making taking place.
In the past, I too have become frustrated sometimes by the ASP business
meeting process that moves at a snail's pace but have learned as a GR and
participating in the GEA activities the importance of the Al-Anon principles
to the health of the program. This includes establishing group level
guidelines that are reached by consensus and knowledge-based decision making
(KBDM). An inherently long process, but well worth it for sound outcomes.
* 3 yrs. sounds like a long time but flies by. I have held multiple
positions on the steering committee and have found that to be true. And I
think Lynne articulated this in her shares about being the List
Administrator. But, if a 2 yr. commitment is less overwhelming for folks
considering a role on the Steering Committee, I would not be opposed to it.
* Our Steering Committee roles are volunteer positions that do require
commitment, but that commitment is manageable when we have people filling
all the roles. Once you get into a rhythm, it allows you to carryon with
your personal life, it really is manageable AND rewarding. I have found
this to be true with most of the positions within ASP. Service is one of
the many gifts of this program.
Just my thoughts..
Hugs,
Anne
