Hi Marilyn,

I'll try to answer your questions.

1. Have there been any known instances of spouses or other alcoholic family members creating an ASP account under false pretenses and reading archives?
Steve: None. We have never had anyone 'crash' ASP's recovery meeting, nor have we ever heard of any instance of anyone accessing the archives that was not a legit and current member of ASP.

2. Have there been known instances of alcoholic family members using the ASP member's log in to read shares/archives and create problems?
Steve: No. We have never heard of an ASP's alcoholic accessing ASP directly or via the ASP member's device, or having created some problem that involved ASP in some way.

3. Have people unsubscribed from ASP and given their reason as concern about the archive of shares?
Steve: No.
The vast majority of members that unsubscribe do so because they are overwhelmed by the quantity of recovery shares in ASP. Probably the next largest reason for leaving ASP is that they didn't understand that ASP was an email meeting.

4. Approximately how many members currently use the Archives to read shares because of problems with email delivery? I know there's no way to track those who read them for ESH on a particular topic.
Steve: Unfortunately, the server reports do not answer that question. I just reviewed the web stats for October for the ASP web site, as well as the month of July, August & September.
The current October server report shows the ASP web site receiving several hundred unique visits per day:
438 visits (October 25th) and 857 unique visits (October 8th). The average this month is 564 visits/day.
Our most popular web pages (# of hits in Oct) are the Contact Us page (763), Members home page (264), Founding Statement page (232), Twelve Traditions page (225), Join ASP #1 page (221), Is Al-Anon for Me page (159), Newcomer-Beginners page (152). The report only lists the top 30 URLs. Unfortunately, the list of top 30 URLs includes images and every URL that supports a page, so only 7 actual pages as you and I use them are in the report.
For those that are interested I've pasted some of the data from the Table: Top 30 of 84 Total Countries.

As I mentioned before, my personal experience on this issue comes when a member reaches out to me asking for help or info about the archives because they are hurting, traveling, new and looking for shares, etc. or they contacted me after the fact to express their gratitude for their ability to access the archives. On a somewhat related note, I also receive personal notes and even hard copy greeting cards via snail mail from grateful members of ASP in most months. Additionally, I've accessed the archives dozens of times while researching some issue at ASP, such as determining eligibility to serve on the SC or as the 2nd Founder, greeter activity, share activity, behavior problems, etc.

Love and SERENITY,
Steve

Subject: [Businessmtg] Archives- questions for Steve and Lynne

Hi Everyone,

1. Have there been any known instances of spouses or other alcoholic family members creating an ASP account under false pretenses and reading archives?

2. Have there been known instances of alcoholic family members using the ASP member's log in to read shares/archives and create problems?

3. Have people unsubscribed from ASP and given their reason as concern about the archive of shares?

4. Approximately how many members currently use the Archives to read shares because of problems with email delivery? I know there's no way to track those who read them for ESH on a particular topic.

I wonder if we are letting imagined fears about someone accessing the archives, (which ARE password protected) affect our clearer thinking regarding the benefit they provide to those who use them. We have heard from Lynne, who uses them to provide statistics on the health of our meeting, and how she uses them to mediate concerns about the appropriateness of questionable shares.

I'm grateful this topic will be discussed at further business meetings.
The more I know, the more I feel there is to consider.

HUGS,
Marilyn
