[Businessmtg] Archives- questions for Steve and Lynne

To flesh out the answers to some of your questions:

1&2 - Because we don't know of specific cases at ASP doesn't mean it's never happened or never will. Probabilities says it's very likely happened in the past and in the future. I know it happens (from f2f shares over the years) regarding email searches, opening mail, and listening in on phone calls, etc. No reason to believe clever alcoholics wouldn't be snooping here, too.

3. I've known ASP members who have unsubscribed ASP because of anonymity concerns generally, members of this and other online Al-Anon groups because the groups didn't follow our Traditions carefully, and, as it is my responsibility to think carefully about continued support and membership in groups which ignore the Traditions, I have seriously considered leaving ASP in the past because of certain bullying personalities and ASP's ignoring of Al-Anon's assurance that "Everything that is said here, in the group meeting, and member-to-member, must be held in confidence" [i.e., archiving members' shares.]
If you were not in the meeting where somebody said something, you are not to be privy to what was said there.

Following our Traditions and practices is extremely important to me. Has been for my 30+ years of recovery and service. I'd like to think that ASP would look to the Traditions for our answer to the question before us.

In service,
Jerry

Hi Everyone,

1. Have there been any known instances of spouses or other alcoholic family
members creating an ASP account under false pretenses and reading archives?

2. Have there been known instances of alcoholic family members using the
ASP member's log in to read shares/archives and create problems?

3. Have people unsubscribed from ASP and given their reason as concern
about the archive of shares?

4. Approximately how many members currently use the Archives to read shares
because of problems with email delivery? I know there's no way to track
those who read them for ESH on a particular topic.

I wonder if we are letting imagined fears about someone accessing the
archives, (which ARE password protected) affect our clearer thinking
regarding the benefit they provide to those who use them. We have heard
from Lynne, who uses them to provide statistics on the health of our
meeting, and how she uses them to mediate concerns about the
appropriateness of questionable shares.

I'm grateful this topic will be discussed at further business meetings.
The more I know, the more I feel there is to consider.

HUGS,
Marilyn
