Hi - I'm Anne K
I am glad we are continuing this discussion. I have read all of the shares on this topic so far.
I am for deleting the existing archives and not archiving any new shares.
While I appreciate Steve R's opinion on the Traditions and anonymity, I feel that keeping the archive breaks our anonymity which is against Tradition 12, at a minimum.
I did ask a while back to have my shares deleted. I went through the process of identifying all of my shares in the archive (about 200 - 300 I believe), listing them out on a spreadsheet, and requesting that the company (not ASP) that is responsible for the server archive remove my shares. Because of how the archive is set up, I was told that is not possible. Think of the archive like a bale of hay with different color pieces of hay in it - some red, some blue, some purple or green - and they are all mixed up. What I was asking was to remove the 300 blue pieces of hay - which is not possible without taking the entire bale of hay apart and then reconstructing it without the blue pieces. It is a complicated, manual process that could result in the archives not being set correctly, not all of my shares being removed, or failing completely. That's why that's not really an option.
I appreciate the work Lynne does with gathering statistics, but I don't see that as reason enough to save the archives.
I also understand reviewing shares of members who are reported for .. un-Al-Anon-like behavior or sharing; however I think one could use say, the next 3 shares from that member for an evaluation rather than the previous 3 shares (or whatever number of shares is used to review).
Thank you for the opportunity to discuss this topic.
