Good morning folks,
I have to say that I have been all around the map with this topic.
My first thought was that we don't need the archives for the same
reasons that many including Jerry, Linda, Mary and many others have stated,
the principle of anonymity being my primary concern.
As part of the Steering Committee, I did see that the archives can be
useful when trying to work through an event or concern of another member
that involves previous shares. While that doesn't happen often, I do see
the convenience of having the shares archived.
Most importantly, I stand by my concern for anonymity as well as safety
and privacy. While we say that it has never happened in all these years,
to say someone's ASP emails have never been hacked or invaded, is hearsay
and an assumption and although we may not be aware of any breach or
violation of one's shares. Things do happen. There are no safeguards in
place to say that a person "X" couldn't join as person "Z" and be just the
last person that you would want to read your shares or "OT's".
We come to these meetings and feel safe here. When I first came, I
came with a fictitious name, a separate email and now I no longer live in
fear of someone reading my personal shares, I am no longer fearful of the
backlash or stalking. My anonymity is not as important to me as it once
was, but that doesn't mean that there is at least ONE person here that has
the same fear/fears that I once had. I am well aware that emails can stay
on your computer or on mine if I never delete them, however, I have not
heard a reason that convinces me for the good of the membership for ASP to
hold on to them indefinitely.
I think that the archives should be deleted permanently.
Lynne does bring up some interesting information that could sway me to
lean towards the List Administrator having sole access if a vote were to
come to that.
Hugs,
Jennifer
