[Businessmtg] Archive Discussion

Good afternoon everyone.

My opinion is the same as it was last year, and one week ago.

I do not think we should retain any archives. Yes, when we put something out in cyberspace we don’t necessarily know what will happen or where it will go, but to purposefully hold onto shares from twenty years ago, seems a bit unnecessary.

I do not think the SC needs special access to shares, that to me violates tradition two. I asked in my share last week how often are the archives actually needed by the SC? I received no response. If it’s not on a regular basis, then it shouldn’t be that important.

Furthermore, we are all responsible for ourselves. If I got into it with a member privately, that’s on me to sort out with the person. The SC cannot intervene in private issues that take place in private email. We’re all adults here. If a member was inappropriate in the main meeting emails, that’s another story. Surely, out of all the members on ASP, and the SC members, someone would have a copy to forward to the person needing to address it. I feel our LA’s have done/do a great job of handling issues promptly, so again, I don’t think shares from 20, 10, 5 years, or even last year are needed.

Also, making sure our email works properly follows with tradition seven. I still chuckle at the thought someone’s email address will not allow them to receive emails.. Seems ironic? There are a slew of email providers out there. If one doesn’t work, switch to another. Lots of ASP members (myself included) have done this before. If they need help, I’m sure lots of ASP members (including the SC) would be more than happy to help.

I also read back through my welcome emails since this conversation began. Which led me to the website. “Archives” aren’t specific on the page. It took me a long time to find it. And it’s password protected. “Archives” could mean many different things : past business meeting information, past chair topics, shares, etc. It’s difficult to find this so again, is it that important to keep? I think not.

I understand there’s a process to this, but it seems we have a consensus. The same people keep sharing, and they have the same opinion every time. Unless we’re holding out to see if someone is influenced differently, seems we’re wasting time. Just my thoughts.

Have a good day,
Anna
