Hello everyone!
Thank you Anne for providing this next topic on open positions and
guiding us to the website for additional information. I think we have a
few people in this meeting who have served on the steering committee
(SC) and held, or at least filled in for these positions. I'd like to
hear from each of you about your experience. Can you maybe share what
those bullet points from Motion #22 really involved during your term?
I'll start, even though I haven't served one of those specific
positions:
I've been on the ASP steering committee since May 2025 (less than a
year), serving as List Administrator. The only reason I put my
application in for the position is because I was nudged by HP...and I'm
so glad I was!
Honestly, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I
surrendered to the idea, but I've been pleasantly surprised! I work a FT
job, travel often for work, and have several activities I do outside of
home and ASP. I wondered if holding this position was going to be
taxing...and it isn't.
What it's really like: I log into the LA email 3-4 times a week, handle
a few items (which involves responding to or sending email), then click
a couple of buttons to make the server happy. About once a month I am
involved in a SC discussion to help someone make a decision (group
conscience), and then I attend these business meetings quarterly.
I had zero knowledge of many of the things I handle when I started. The
previous LA gave me great instructions and then Steve and Anne filled in
the blanks.
We really rely on these positions in order to keep the meetings and
business end of our group running smoothly and we can't do it without
volunteers!
So, if you are even a wee bit interested, let me know and I'm happy to
answer questions. An inquiry doesn't get you elected. :) And if you have
a friend/sponsee who you think would be a good fit, please send them our
way.
Hugs,
Tammy
