Biz-Pals,

Some thoughts

One of our oft discussed problems is we have a shortage of:
a) ASP members who attend the Business Meeting, from where our service positions generally come, and
b) Business Meeting (BM) members who meet our qualifications for the various elected service positions.

We've got a few workarounds, but very often we have to rely on Founders to do much work they shouldn't have to, work intended for new volunteers for service.

I recall when ASP first organized itself when the membership took over the reigns - the qualifications for service had to be bypassed here and there to get our positions filled. I was elected Treasurer without prior group service and, except for a couple of minor hiccups, did a pretty good job of it.

Recently, we've had some good fortune as service participation has improved, filling some critical positions. There's little doubt that having all positions filled is of benefit to ASP as a whole, those who may choose to serve now, and bring relief to our two Founders who are "forced" into filling the shoes which should be filled by others.

Quite frankly, it's up to those from the general membership to get to the BM's and then later stand for ASP's offices. Continuously relying on long-time trusted servants to pull the load is not a long-term solution. Some current and past trusted servants are getting long in the tooth. 😱

So as you contemplate service, please keep in mind that we need you to be comfortable with stepping forward, but we really do need you.

Greeter Chair: Jennifer our current Greeter Chair is wrapping up her service
commitment in May.

Secretary: has been open for several years. Our last List Administrator
did double duty covering the role of List Administrator and then taking on
the Secretary role when it became vacant during her tenure. It is now
managed by me, temporarily, as one of the ASP founders

At-Large-Member is currently open.

Al-Anon service takes many forms and is incredibly rewarding and contributes
greatly to the Al-Anon journey we all travel as members. Over the years,
filling Steering Committee roles has at times, been challenging. With
multiple roles now needing volunteers, we have added this topic to the
agenda. For those Business Meeting members who have served on the Steering
Committee we encourage you to share your ESH on the positions.

The Steering Committee continues to evolve and has done well in recent years
in becoming a team - balancing autonomy with respect for Al-Anon principles
and guidelines set forth by ASP and by the business meeting
