Hi All,
Lots of information was presented, and it is easy to go down some rabbit holes and do some future tripping with the WSO’s announcement and the new GR position - like expenses, budgets and prudent reserves, however, the topic for the business meeting this month lands squarely with updating Motion 4. First things first, right?
As I recall, Motion 4 was established by the business meeting attendees, 15 years ago. It was established carefully but it was based on assumptions. Between 2004 and 2006, business meetings were established and Motion 4 was developed. Prior to this, ASP had a service structure that was managed by Steve – Steve please jump in here. I think not only was he the List Administrator from the start; there was no treasurer, any costs were funded by Steve, if there were meetings outside of the recovery meeting like a business meeting, they were led by Steve. And Steve managed and recruited the greeters and daily chairs too.
I feel like we need to do this reset on Motion 4 to adjust to what is. The good news is there really isn’t much to change.
Anyway, my point is, that after 15 years we have learned a few things. And we now are recommending some changes. Although it may seem like we are eliminating a position, the webmaster, we are redefining it as that of a recording secretary. We are also recommending that we build in the Group Representative position during this review and update of Motion 4. Keeping it simple for now and adopting the description as it appears in the service manual.
I support the changes that have been presented.
Please keep in mind, that while we are deciding/discussing the updates to Motion 4, we have almost all (3+) Steering committee positions open. Steve is covering the list administrator and secretary role, the webmaster role may be shifting to a recording secretary role, (FYI - Anne K’s term is up) and soon we will have a future Group Rep position to fill. So, we can talk all we want about the GR and the grand plans, but the elephant in the room is how will we attract and retain our members to step forward into these positions. Always attraction rather than promotion, it seems we are failing in this area.
Hugs,
Anne O.
