Hi Betsy,We have two, shall I say 'levels' of trusted servants at ASP.First, are the appointed positions.  Our appointed trusted servants tend to have very specific duties.  Those duties are described in detail, so discretion is limited.  Additionally,  those positions work under the direction of one of the officers on the Steering Committee. Second, are the officers on the Steering Committee.  In general, the officers/Steering Committee are responsible for implementing the group consciences and practices of ASP.  Motion #22 describes the relationship and jurisdiction of the Business Meeting (members of ASP) and the Steering Committee.  Motion #22 also outlines the job descriptions of the officers on the Steering Committee with simple generalized plain language responsibilities.  Some responsibilities are further described in ASP Group Consciences.  For example, the Secretary is responsible for chairing the Business Meeting.  ASP has both informal 'practices' and formal group consciences regarding the Business Meeting.  The informal practices include things like establishing the agenda, announcing the meeting to the recovery meeting, making the necessary subscription changes on the server, sending out the opening messages, and generally leading the Business Meeting.  Then we have a group conscience that describes in detail the KBDM process we use in the Business Meeting, therefore the Secretary is responsible for guiding the Business Meeting through that process, and not some other process or procedure. The Secretary is also individually responsible for the Daily Chair operation in the main recovery Meeting.  This is a crucial role in ASP, so naturally there are a couple of group consciences that apply, however the details of how the Secretary implements those are up to his/her discretion.  FYI, some of the officers are currently developing documentation of how they do their jobs.  Our intention is to provide this documentation as an example of how each officer does the admin side of their job.  This documentation does not create or change policy (policy is created by the membership in the Business Meeting), however it will likely serve to document past practices. For example, I have sample emails that I send out as Secretary:* Business Meeting announcements * Business Meeting Opening* Daily Chair vacancy announcement* Daily Chair instructions None of this is very difficult nor time consuming.  Usually.  There are two exceptions. 1. Sometimes people make things more complicated than necessary.  This could be through micromanaging, resisting established practices, or trying to control something outside their baliwick.2. Something happens that is unusual and significant which requires a lot of attention.  Fortunately this is rare, but it does happen in ASP just like in life.Love and SERENITY, SteveSent from my Galaxy
