Thanks Anne for defining the discussion right now. My understanding of what you said is that we have a consensus that the archives should be modified in some way.
But we do not have consensus on what to do with half the participants being willing to keep the archives but limit access to the SC only and half the participants wanting to delete the archives permanently and not archive shares going forward.
Which means we are not at a place where we can make a motion since we don’t have a consensus on what to do with the archives. So now we are discussing whether we can get to a consensus on that subject.
My understanding is that if we can’t come to a consensus then this topic dies and we don’t make any motions.
I am going to reiterate my position that I am for keeping the archives as they are. Email is an inherently anonymous format and anyone can make their email address anonymous to protect their identity. I do not see the archive as compromising anonymity.
However, I recognize the concerns and would fully support limiting the access to the archives to only the Steering Committee - who are elected by 2/3 of the Business Meeting to be the TRUSTED servants of ASP. I trust the SC to use the archives appropriately and as needed to carry out their work at ASP on our behalf.
I do not support deleting the archives because I think that will be detrimental to the health of the recovery meeting, which we all depend on for our recovery. When there is a member who shares inappropriately enough that it disrupts the meeting, the List Administrator and SC must have access to the archives to appropriately deal with the situation. Assuming that the SC can find a work around for not having the archives puts unneeded pressure and stress of the SC and I can’t support that.
The archives are an all or nothing entity - we either delete them all or keep them all and limit access. The only change I can support is limiting access.
Take what you like and leave the rest.
Hugs,
Lynne
